Chelsea and Manchester City are on red alert as Barcelona struggle to secure Daniel Alves to a new contract. The Brazil fullback's agent, Joaquín Macanás, met with Barca officials on Tuesday and came away from talks unimpressed, says El Mundo Deportivo.

Barca's latest offer falls well short of what both City and Chelsea have tabled to Macanas in recent weeks. The difference between what Alves is demanding and Barca's offer is over £1 million-a-year.

Among Barca's delegation were vice-president Josep Maria Bartomeu and sports director Andoni Zubizarreta, but they couldn't convince Macanas over the value of their offer.
