Newcastle United have avoided a potential goalkeeping crisis with news that youngster Jak Alnwick will be fit to face Sunderland this weekend.
The 21-year old landed awkwardly in Wednesday night's Capital One Cup quarter-final loss at Tottenham which had initially placed him in doubt for Sunday's Tyne-Wear derby with the Black Cats.
Alan Pardew already has first-choice Tim Krul and his back-up Rob Elliot sidelined by injury and was sweating on the fitness of Alnwick as he only had 17-year old Freddie Woodman as fourth option for the St James' Park fixture.
But reports have suggested that Alnwick has brushed off his shoulder problem and been passed fit to play as the Magpies look to get back to winning ways after two heavy defeats (4-1 against Arsenal in the Premier League and 4-0 against Spurs).
