Werder Bremen striker Hugo Almeida has revealed how he tipped off Portuguese authorities about the eligibility of Arsenal winger Amaury Bischoff.

Bischoff was a teammate of Almeida's at Werder last season and the striker revealed: "I had a conversation with Bischoff and he said he was Portuguese, but had already played once for France, but would like to represent Portugal.

"I decided to tell the leaders of the (Portuguese) Federation there was a great player here. He has excellent vision of the game, a great pass, and scores goals from midfield and at free-kicks.

"I just informed the Portuguese Football Federation, telling them to come here to see if they like him or not. The rest is history."

Bischoff featured for Portugal U21 last week.
