Allsopp not yet on Melbourne Victory radar

Melbourne Victory coach Ernie Merrick has confirmed that the A-League club are not likely to re-sign former striker Danny Allsopp.

News has emerged that the 32-year old-two-time Victory Premiership winner will be released by MLS club DC United at the completion of the 2010 season and already there is speculation suggesting he will return to the Victory.

But Merrick distanced the club from any talk of Allsopp coming back in the near future.

"In regards to Danny, he has still has another year left on his contract as it is with the league (MLS) and not the club (DC United)," Merrick said.

"I have spoken to Danny on the phone and he says he wants to take some time away from football and although he is a great player and we would love to have him back, at this stage we are not planning to sign him."

Allsopp scored five goals in 23 appearances for DC in his debut MLS season but unfortunately his side had the worst record in the regular season.
