Allegri: Lower league experience prepared me for AC Milan

AC Milan's title-winning coach Massimiliano Allegri says his grounding in the lower leagues prepared him for this season's success.

While the likes of Leonardo, Vincenzo Montella and Roberto Mancini were instantly handed control of major clubs in their careers, Allegri had to learn his trade lower down the footballing ladder.

"I think it was fundamental because nobody is born with knowledge," he told Radio Anch'io Lo Sport on Monday. "Learning the ropes is important for all Coaches.

"My first years in the Lega Pro and then my two at Cagliari were very important, an excellent school for me.

"Then I arrived at Milan, a splendid club. Vice-President Adriano Galliani and President Silvio Berlusconi were close to me and that made things easier."
