Allegri explains Dybala, Cuadrado axe for Juventus win over Man City

Juventus coach Max Allegri says his team selection was no hair-trigger decision after their 1-0 Champions League win over Manchester City.

Mario Mandzukic sealed a 1-0 result in Turin.

Allegri shocked many by dropping Alvaro Morata and Juan Cuadrado in favour of Mandzukic and Stephan Lichtsteiner, while Alex Sandro was man of the match in a 3-5-2 system.

“The decision to use Mandzukic in place of Morata was made two days ago. I needed Morata more for what he could give in the second half when City were getting tired.

“Alex Sandro did very well this evening and he is an excellent signing. Players like him need to be allowed to settle in, as nobody is ready to give their best in a new environment straight away. He did well in attack and defence, while Patrice Evra guaranteed experience in a delicate moment of the match.

Paulo Dybala is learning more and more to connect with the midfield and become a support striker. On the other hand, Morata is learning more how to be a genuine centre-forward."
