Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce will not be able to sign former AS Monaco midfielder Camel Meriem because club officials are worried about the fact he is not a ‘home grown’ player.

Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce will not be able to sign former AS Monaco midfielder Camel Meriem because club officials are worried about the fact he is not a ‘home grown’ player.

The 28-year old was poised to join Rovers in a bargain deal but the move was scuppered by Ewood Park money men because he is a foreigner.

Meriem has represented France about 15 times in a career that began with Sochaux in 1997 and took to him to Bordeaux and Marseille before he joined Monaco in 2005.
