Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce is hopeful over defender Sebastian Coates' injury ahead of the crucial six-point relegation battle against Aston Villa on Saturday.
The Uruguayan defender limped off in the 72nd minute of the 1-0 defeat to Liverpool on Wednesday night.
Allardyce said after the loss: "Seb had a problem with Vito [Mannone] ran into him in the first half, and that's probably what the issue is.
"We're hoping it's more of a knock; bruising rather than a muscle tear. We'll wait and see tomorrow and assess it then."
He added: "It's a very quick turnaround for the Aston Villa game. They have had a few more days to get ready, but we have to try and recover these lads as quickly as we can."
