Allardyce eager to stay with ‘miraculous’ Sunderland

Sam Allardyce says he is keen to remain as manager of Sunderland.

The 61-year-old, who replaced Dick Advocaat in October, has guided the Black Cats to safety courtesy of Wednesday night's 3-0 home win over Everton.

It has been a productive few months for Sunderland who have lost just once in their past 10 Premier League matches to preserve their top flight status and the teamwork that has led to that run is something Allardyce is keen to work with next season and beyond.

"We're safe with a game left and that's pretty miraculous," said Allardyce.

"I'm delighted because there's no way I wanted to go to Watford on the last day with anything on the line. You go back to November with Everton beating us 6-2 and it shows you how far we've come. From January onwards, we've been a team.

"Yes, I am staying, I hope so!"
