Allardyce bemoans Blackburn's inability to hold onto a lead

Blackburn Rovers manager Sam Allardyce was again disappointed with his sides inability to keep a lead after they lost 3-1 to Aston Villa in the Carling Cup on Wednesday night.

The Lancashire club hit the front when Gael Givet struck in the 34th minute but were knocked to the floor when Emile Heskey struck just before the hour mark ahead of Ashley Young's 75th and 77th minute goals.

Allardyce was left frustrated after seeing his side again blow a lead and called on his defence to be more focused and disciplined.

"We've gone in front in six games out of seven and haven't been able to hold onto things," he said.

"A game lasts 90 minutes, not 45 and it's frustrating for us.

"We couldn't cope with Villa's change in shape.

"We must be more resilient defensively and just keep working away at things."
