Allardyce admits Everton may 'have to go and dig one out' against Stoke

Everton manager Sam Allardyce has admitted his side will need to 'dig one out' against Stoke City this weekend.

The Toffees have won only once away from home this season. And Allardyce says he is trying everything to change the situation, but ultimately, it may come down to just sheer determination.

He said: "What we have to say to the players is 'why don't you play this well away?' and then we don't need to change the team or shift the system about.

"I've got to make that transition from Goodison to away and try and produce the same quality of performance that we deliver here.

"It appears to be a mentality problem because it's happened for so long but there are so many new players here so it's difficult to put your finger on."

Allardyce added: "There have been three managers and three sets of new players almost and you've still got the same problems.

"I've got to try and work that out. Whether we go and say to ourselves 'we have to go and dig one out' like we did at Liverpool or West Brom it's for us to decide next week.

"We could play on the break and use Yannick Bolasie and Theo Walcott as breakout areas while conceding the majority of possession.

"I've just seen Manchester United beat Liverpool doing that – and on their own patch – so maybe that be a way forward for us?"
