Wellington had the most of the chances in the first half, with Paul Ifill proving dangerous despite a slight hamstring problem.
The English import was busy and had two left-foot shots saved by Mariners keeper Danny Vukovic and it looked like something would happen every time he was on the ball.
Down the other end, the Mariners had a goal disallowed when Nicky Travis played a one-two with Matt Simon and duly converted but Simon was adjudged to be off-side.
Overall, the first half was an even contest with the home side just shading their opponents in the possession and shots on target stats.
Both sides had periods of dominance in the second term with one of the best chances going to Wellington's Vince Lia who put his free header to the side of the target, letting the Mariners defence off.
Neither side could pierce their opponents defence despite plenty of opportunities and had to settle for a point each.
