Paul Mariner conducted his first training session as Toronto FC's new head coach on Monday and everything was positive according to the players.

The former Arsenal, Plymouth Argyle, Ipswich Town and England striker replaced Aron Winter late last week after the Dutchman was sacked due to Toronto's poor start to the 2012 MLS season of one win and nine losses.

TFC captain Torsten Frings was realistic regarding the coaching change whilst midfielder Terry Dunfield was excited about a fresh start at BMO Field.

"I have to say it's a pity for Aron that he's not here," Frings said. "But I think it's business. When you lose too many games, the coach [is replaced]. It's a pity for him.

"Paul is a great guy. He wants us to have fun at the pitch and you could see it today. I think it's very important for us that we have fun."

Dunfield added: "Everyone was excited about today It's almost like, not to give you a cliché, our season starts now.

"Today was like a breath of fresh air."
