All I do is delegate…and earn a lot of money - Man Utd boss LVG

Louis van Gaal has quipped that he actually does nothing at Manchester United.

The 64-year-old Dutchman has been in the management game since 1991 when he took the reins at Ajax after spending time as assistant at the Amsterdam giants.

Almost two-and-a-half decades later, van Gaal finds himself with a different role to the one he experienced when he was starting out in the game and has revealed that all he does these days is decide who does what.

Van Gaal has also been criticised for the way he speaks to his players but according to the former Bayern Munich and Barcelona boss, it is necessary.

"Feedback is very important, of course. But I have to say that because when I don't say that then I'm arrogant!' Van Gaal laughed while speaking at the League Managers' Association annual management conference.

"I am also an innovator, and I have changed a lot in terms of preparing for games. I was the first coach who was with a notebook. Now everybody is with a notebook. I was the first coach who used video.

"I'm from a time where you [the manager] did everything. Now I'm the manager and I have a sports science department, I have a scouting department, I have a medical department, I have assistant managers, I have assistant coaches.

"I don't do anything - nothing! I delegate. I delegate, and I earn a lot of money."
