Alessandro Florenzi thrilled with Roma playing return

Alessandro Florenzi is thrilled with his playing return at Roma.

The midfielder tore his ACL in October 2016 and suffered a relapse just as he was set to return, but did play and score in Friday night's 4-1 friendly win over Chapecoense.

“I am happy with my return and frankly I've had enough rest," Florenzi told Sky Sport Italia.

“We are working every day to improve my fitness levels. Obviously I am not at 100 per cent yet, otherwise I'd be Superman. I am able to help the squad, so the Coach will decide how and when. Nobody knows more than him and my fitness coach how long I've got in my legs. I feel stronger with each day."

With Francesco Totti's retirement, Daniele De Rossi is the new captain, but Florenzi revealed he's been taking that role for a while.

“I spoke to De Rossi before the Chapecoense game and he wished me good luck. He has been closest to me during this period and I thank him for being such a great guy.

“He was the one who called my parents and told them about my injury. He visited me at 4am that night in the hospital. It has not been easy over these 10 months, there was a lot of sadness, but hopefully now I'm on the right track and will stay there."
