Aldridge urges Liverpool to address left-back position in wake of Moreno struggles

Legend John Aldridge has stated that Liverpool will need to find a replacement for left-back Alberto Moreno this summer.

Liverpool suffered a disappointing 3-1 defeat in the final of the Europa League last week and arguably the biggest culprit for the Reds on the night was Spaniard Moreno, who endured a wretched time on the left side of defence.

Following the game, many fans have demanded Moreno to be axed and now even Aldridge has gone on to urge manager Jurgen Klopp to sign a new left-sided full-back in there summer transfer window, naming Atletico Madrid star Filipe Luis as a potential target.

In his column for the Liverpool Echo, Aldridge write: "I don't want to blame anyone in particular for the defeat, but you have to look at Alberto Moreno for that first goal. He's had so many experiences to learn from this season with his ball-watching, and not being in the right place at the right time, and he seems to become even worse at it.

"When you make a mistake, you don't do it again – but he carries on shutting off and watching the ball. First and foremost, a left back has to defend, and then focus on putting some good balls into the box. The lad has genuine ability but he suits being a left back rather than being in a flat back four.

"You can't wholly blame him, but he has made some real mistakes. We need a top left back, quite simply. I don't know what happened to Jose Enrique, he downed tools and wasn't bothered, but now we need someone top class in that position.

"Someone with the quality of Atletico's Filipe Luis, for example.

"Moreno can learn off whoever we bring in, but we need experience in that position next season.

"Hopefully it's a position we look to sort this summer."
