Liverpool legend John Aldridge has revealed his family connections with new signing Rickie Lambert.
Aldo wrote in the Sunday World: "Lambert is an old family friend of ours. When my son Paul was playing for Macclesfield back in 2002, Lambert used to be his travelling partner heading to the training ground every day. So it's amazing for all of us to see him getting the chance to join Liverpool and play in the Champions League a decade later.
"While Brendan Rodgers surprised many by looking to add Lambert to his squad, I'm not in the slightest bit shocked by the move. In fact, I even raised the idea of the Reds signing Rickie a few short weeks ago at a Liverpool former players dinner.
"Phil Thompson and a few of the lads present were throwing names around of possible targets for the summer and I put Rickie into the mix. To my amazement, my suggestion has become a reality."
