Aldridge: Liverpool were 'fabulous' under 'exceptional' Klopp

Liverpool legend John Aldridge has hailed manager Jurgen Klopp following the Reds' fine 4-1 victory over Manchester City.

The Merseyside club put in arguably their best performance of the season by demolishing the pre-round Premier League leaders at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

Aldridge was left in awe with his former side's performance against City and the Irishman heaped praise on new manager Klopp for his role in the monumental triumph.

Aldridge stated in his column for the Liverpool Echo: "We beat Manchester City and we beat them comprehensively. The fact their goalkeeper was Man of the Match shows it could have been so much worse for them. It was fabulous, it really was and I thought Jurgen Klopp's tactics were unbelievable.

"I knew he was going there with the same game plan as at Stamford Bridge and Manchester City's team on paper looked like they could struggle defensively in my opinion. Manchester City had injuries of course but so did we with Jordan Henderson and Daniel Sturridge still to come back in, among others.

"Klopp really looks to be an exceptional manager. It's not his team but he's got them playing in his way. He's always there at the side of the pitch, I love his enthusiasm, it's like he goes on the pitch with them – he's like a twelfth man.

"They have all bought into his work ethic and into his tactics. They all know they've got to work their socks off because if they don't they could find themselves out of the team. That's how it was when I was playing at Liverpool. You were scared to get injured or lose form because you might not get back in the team."
