Aldridge: Liverpool fans right to be worried about slow market

Liverpool legend John Aldridge has concern over manager Jurgen Klopp's lack of summer additions.

Aldridge wrote for the Sunday World: "There is a certain degree of concern among Liverpool fans ahead of the new season - and it is easy to understand why.

"When you looked at the substitute bench manager Jurgen Klopp was operating with last season, it was probably the weakest of all the top six clubs in the Premier League.

"When a few injuries hit mid-way through the season and Sadio Mane went off to the African Cup of Nations, Liverpool season fell apart in league and cup competitions and that highlighted the fragility of Klopp's squad.

"The worry for Liverpool fans right now is that with less than a month to go before the start of the new season - and that vital Champions League qualifier coming up a couple of days after that - Klopp's squad is essentially the same as last season.

"Mohamed Salah is a welcome addition and he is a useful addition to his attacking options, as is youngster Dominic Solanke following his arrival from Chelsea.

"However, what happens if the week before this season gets under way, Mane has a recurrence of the knee injury that ruled him out of the final weeks of last season, Philippe Coutinho pulls a hamstring in training, a couple of players join Daniel Sturridge in the treatment room?

"It would be a nightmare scenario heading into what could be a very tricky Champions League play-off tie in mid-August."
