Liverpool legend John Aldridge is confident Dirk Kuyt will prove his worth on Merseyside.

Kuyt has struggled for goals this season, but ex-Tranmere Rovers boss Aldo told liverpoolfc.tv: "When he first signed for Liverpool I thought he looked the part straight away but he has lost his way a bit since then and he seems to be suffering from a lack of confidence.

"But you could never fault his effort for the team. One of the biggest compliments I could pay him is to say he works like a Scouser - he gives absolutely everything just like the local lads do.

"Now he has to channel that work rate so it becomes even more effective for the team. He was bought as a goalscorer and a match winner and that is exactly what we need right now."
