Liverpool legend John Aldridge says victory over West Ham has only reaffirmed his opinion that this squad is the best the club has seen.

Aldridge wrote for the Liverpool Echo: "They won't be at full pelt just yet and that's understandable as they continue to build their fitness early into the new season, but that's what made Sunday's win all the more impressive.

"Liverpool's strength in depth on the bench was so evident against West Ham - and I'd even say it's the strongest Reds squad in Premier League history.

"If you look at the Liverpool squad now, you would say Klopp is capable of fielding two Premier League teams with the players he has available to him.

"It all bodes well because this could be a long, hard season where Liverpool are fighting on every front."
