Liverpool legend John Aldridge had a clear reminder for Manchester United in the wake of Wayne Rooney's marvellous achievement.

The former Anfield striker took the time in his column for the Liverpool Echo to congratulate Rooney on becoming the Reds' north-west rivals all-time leading goalscorer.

However, Aldo wanted to make sure that all United supporters should never forget where Croxteth-born Rooney hails from.

I would just like to give a huge, massive, heartfelt congratulations to top Scouser Wayne Rooney for being top of the scoring pops at a Manchester club," Aldridge wrote.

“Manchester United fans like to sing all the songs they can about people from this city, so maybe next time they do, they can take a look on the pitch and realise their greatest ever goalscorer is from Liverpool.

“A Scouser!"

Former Everton young gun Rooney scored his 250th goal for United on Saturday to surpass Sir Bobby Charlton's previous all-time record.
