Aldo: Chelsea's Sturridge will prove great Liverpool signing

Liverpool legend John Aldridge has welcomed their imminent deal for Chelsea striker Danny Sturridge.

Aldo wrote in the Liverpool Echo: "I'm delighted we've agreed a deal for Daniel Sturridge to sign for us in January.

"I honestly believe he's got the potential to be a really good buy for Liverpool over the coming years.

"I did the phone-in on Radio City after Saturday's win against Fulham and I was surprised by a lot of the negative comments about Sturridge.

"As far as I'm concerned, he's got pace, he's strong and he knows where the net is.

"It's pretty clear that he needed a fresh start after things had gone stale for him down in London.

"He had three and a half years at Chelsea and never really got a run of games. When you look at how many matches he actually started for Chelsea his strike-rate is around one goal for every two games, which is decent.

"I remember being really impressed by him when he went out on loan to Bolton two years ago. If he can repeat that kind of form at Anfield then we will all be happy.

"I don't think £12million is a bad price to pay for a 23-year-old who has the ability to become a regular England international."
