Toby Alderweireld hopes Tottenham's defensive solidity can give them the edge in the Premier League title race.

Spurs travel to Manchester City on Saturday with the best defensive record in the top flight having conceded only 14 goals in 21 matches.

The Belgium centre-back said: "Every team at the top must have a good defence and you build from that.

"Everyone is working hard – and that includes players like Harry Kane, who is also scoring goals for us.

"The team know how important it is to be compact and keep clean sheets and that is a very strong thing for us."
