Aitor Karanka is set to turn down a return to Spanish football at Alaves.

The former Middlesbrough manager is favourite for the job after Alaves sacked coach Luis Zubeldia on Sunday night.

However, Cadena Ser says Karanka doesn't feel ready to return to football after the recent passing of his father.

The former Real Madrid assistant coach has been mentioned as the outstanding candidate for the post, but it appears Alaves will now have to look elsewhere.

For now, Javier Cabello has been named caretaker manager.
