United Arab Emirates club Al Shabab claim to be in talks with ex-England international and Liverpool star Michael Owen.

The 32-year old was released by Manchester United at the end of last season and is believed to be on the lookout for a new club.

Al Shabab posted on their Twitter page that they were in discussions with Owen and his agent with a deal soon to be complete.

"Michael Owen has been identified as a candidate to play for Shabab next season and we are in negotiations with his management team," read the post.

"The player's agent is in Dubai to close the deal."
