Ajax's Vertonghen: People always underestimate Arsenal star Vermaelen
Ajax midfielder Jan Vertonghen is delighted for former teammate Thomas Vermaelen's success at Arsenal.
The Belgium midfielder said: "I'm not surprised by the strong performances and goals from Thomas at Arsenal.
"I know how good he is. Thomas is always underestimated. I've always thought he would have made the transfer earlier if he had been fit all season. What always strikes me is that he's as sharp and focused as when he was playing with Ajax.
"He is not very tall, but he compensates with his great jumping ability. We speak several times each week. According to Thomas, Arsenal is a warm and professional club, he finds it a pleasure to play in this team."
