Ajax Amsterdam midfielder Teemu Tainio will more than likely join MLS outfit New York Red Bulls.
The 31-year old Finland international is on trial with the Red Bulls who are hoping to sign him with views of playing him at right full-back according to coach Hans Backe.
"He's on a trial, so he'll probably stay with us through our last (pre-season) game here, fly to Guadalajara and play the Chivas game, and definitely go with us to Fort Lauderdale in the end of February," said Backe.
"I've seen him many, many times before. He's very experienced player. Hopefully we can sign him. He's normally been playing central midfield, a box-to-box midfield player. (But) we will use him to compete at the right fullback position."
Tainio kicked off his career with homeland club FC Haka in 1996 before moving on to French Ligue 1 club AJ Auxerre where he spent eight seasons, notching 150 league appearances.
He then joined English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur in 2005, playing three seasons at White Hart Lane, before moving to Sunderland in July 2008, having his contract mutually terminated in August last year.
During his time at the Stadium of Light, he had a loan spell with Birmingham City, but signed with Ajax the day he left Sunderland.
