Ajax have tabled a bid for Espanyol winger Albert Riera.

Ajax want the former Manchester City midfielder to fill the gap left by Ryan Babel, who joined Liverpool earlier this summer.

Espanyol regard Ajax's £4 million bid as falling short in their valuation, but expect the Dutch club to try again in the coming days.
