Ajax have dropped out of the race for AZ Alkmaar midfielder Adam Maher.

Maher has also been linked with English sides Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.

Ajax chief Marc Overmars told De Telegraaf: "I have called Adam and his agent Sigi Lens to tell them we will make other choices.

"I have also informed AZ that we are no longer interested."
