Ajax defender Thomas Vermaelen is holding out for a bigger contract before agreeing a £10 million move to Arsenal.

The Times says Arsenal must increase the personal terms offered in a four-year deal to Vermaelen, according to Soren Lerby, the player's agent.

Reports in the Netherlands said that a fee was agreed on Saturday with Ajax for the Belgium defender.
