Ajax coach Martin Jol is delighted to see Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe fulfilling his promise for club and country.
The former Spurs manager said: "He always had the pace to get in behind and on to the ball over the top. But it was the same story. One touch and then bang. He always shot as soon as he could, rather than trying to take it on.
"Yes, Jermain tends to hit the target, most of the time, but because he shoots so early, the keeper is able to save it. That was the first time I can remember when I've seen him take the ball on a bit and choose the right moment to shoot. He did it very well, too, a good goal. Maybe he is growing up as a player."
