Manchester United legend Edwin van der Sar has labelled rumours linking him with a return to the club as "nonsense".

There has been talk of the Ajax CEO becoming United's director of football in recent weeks. However, the 2008 Champions League final hero has categorically denied the claims.

"I saw it (the report) a few weeks ago in the press, but that story about United is nonsense," he was quoted as saying on the weekly Inside Ajaxprogram on Ziggo Sport in the Netherlands on Friday.

"I think I have a two-year contract. Ajax is my club and I would like to stay longer. The success we strive for and want to achieve is beautiful."
