Ajax coach Martin Jol admits he had offers from West Ham United and Aston Villa during the summer.

Jol chose to stay with Ajax after receiving guarantees from his board that no more of his squad would be sold off.

"I chose not to leave. There was serious interest, which came from Aston Villa and for three months previously at West Ham.

"But now the players will not leave. This is good. Ajax is still the best club in Holland," said Jol.
