Ajax 0-4 Real Madrid: Ronaldo double gives Madrid big win in Amsterdam

AMSTERDAM: Real Madrid demolished Ajax Amsterdam 4-0 in the Champions League group stage on Tuesday night.

Led by a Cristiano Ronaldo double, the Spanish giants stitched up top spot in Group G after already qualifying in the last match, ending Ajax's hopes in the process.

Karim Benzema kicked things off in the 36th minute when he slotted from the edge of the area after some good lead-up work by Mesut Ozil before Alvaro Arbeloa scored a second on the stroke of half-time with a long range shot that left Ajax keeper Maarten Stekelenburg wrong-footed.

Madrid got a third through Ronaldo with 20 minutes remaining. The Portuguese star drilled home an Angel Di Maria pass giving Stekelenburg no chance before adding his second and the team's fourth by converting a spot-kick in the 81st minute.

The night was soured for Madrid when Xabi Alonso and Sergio Ramos were both needlessly sent off late in the match after picking up second bookable offences.
