Former German Footballer of the Year, Ailton has signed with Chinese Super League club Chongqing Lifan.

The 36-year old Brazilian has impressed in recent trials with the struggling outfit and joins the team who have just nine points from 15 matches.

The ex-Werder Bremen star who also had stints with Schalke 04, Hamburg, Besiktas and Grasshoppers showed strong form in his trials, prompting coach Arie Haan to make the signing.

"I was a bit concerned about his physical condition, but the trial shows he is much better than I thought," Haan told the Chongqing Evening Post.
