Fernando Torres' former coach, Atletico Madrid's Javier Aguirre has revealed he was unaware the player was leaving the club.

Aguirre said that he was never aware a deal was being sorted with Liverpool and only found out the Spanish striker had signed with the Reds in the media.

"I learnt his transfer in the press," Aguirre told Popular TV.

"I say it and I'll always say it, nobody consulted me and told me that it went through.

"Fernando gave his all to Atletico Madrid, he's a great professional and right now he's doing huge things in England. He has grown up."
