Sacked Atletico Madrid coach Javier Aguirre says he was never responsible for signings and player sales.

The Mexican said: "I was always aware, but I had no influence, all this was done by consensus. Offers were made for (Rafael) van der Vaart, (Angel) Di Maria and (David) Silva, but there was no money and there was no price."

Aguirre also revealed he was not told of the sale of Fernando Torres to Liverpool.

He added: "I say as I've always said. Nobody consulted me. Fernando (Torres) gave all he had for Atletico Madrid, he is a great professional and he is now a phenomenon in England. He has grown."
