Sergio 'Kun' Aguero made positive steps to repaying his £35million transfer fee with a great debut performance for Manchester City in their 4-0 victory tonight. The Argentine came off the bench on the hour-mark to score two goals and set up another as City eventually overcame newcomers Swansea City, who like Aguero, were on their Premier League debut.
Roberto Mancini's outfit for the Etihad Stadium clash was worth £154million as opposed to Brendan Rodgers' Swans, who total £7.3million, and in the end it showed as the Eastlands club powered past the first side from Wales to play in England's top flight.
Edin Dzeko kicked things off for City when he was on hand to tap home Adam Johnson's initial attempt, which was saved by Michel Vorm, in the 57th minute before Aguero, who entered the pitch less than ten minutes earlier, finished off a low cross from Micah Richards with a sliding effort at the backpost 11 minutes later.
David Silva scored three minutes later when Aguero's initial flick over Vorm was cut back from the byline by the Argentine, into the path of the Spanish winger, and he made no mistake from straight in front.
Aguero then put the finishing touches on the contest when he had a pop from way outside the area in injury time and it sizzled past Vorm and into the back of the net to wrap it up at 4-0 in sensational fashion.
New Swans goalkeeper Vorm came up with a number of brilliant saves to deny City - acrobatically keeping out Silva's powerful drive from outside the area in the 24th minute, scrambling to save Edin Dzeko's attempt late in the first half, blocking Aguero's first attempt and then following up by keeping Yaya Toure at bay and again denying the Ivorian's free-kick later in the match.
It could have been a completely different story if it wasn't for Vorm - and the crossbar - which kept out Silva and Gareth Barry in the first half, but in the end, City ran out comfortable and deserved winners.
Down the other end, City keeper Joe Hart was required to make just two saves of any consequence, when Stephen Dobbie struck goalward on a counter attack and Danny Graham had an attempt from inside the area, but Swansea played a refreshing brand of football which is sure to worry some lesser sides in the competition.
