Aguero history speaks for itself - Man City mate Fernandinho

Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho has expressed his staunch support for teammate Sergio Aguero.

The Argentine striker briefly lost his spot in Pep Guardiola's starting XI to January signing Gabriel Jesus – attracting doubt over his future at the club.

However, Aguero found himself back in Guardiola's plans after Jesus suffered a long-term foot injury and went on to score a brace in City's remarkable 5-3 Champions League win over Monaco in midweek.

Fernandinho says that no one ever doubted Aguero's abilities due to his phenomenal history with City.

"Aguero is very important for us. His history at this club speaks for itself," Fernandinho said.

"With the arrival of Gabriel Jesus and with him scoring goals and providing assists, Aguero ended up on the bench for few games but no one ever had doubts about Aguero's qualities.

"Against Monaco he showed [his quality], not only by scoring goals, but also the way he played. Recovering balls, running, pressing, helping the team.

"For a team that wants to reach the Champions League final, which is our aim, we need that spirit, no matter who is playing, we need to do that.

"This year we are showing that in our games and Aguero more than anyone else embraced that idea, so we are very happy about it."
