Agent reveals Real Madrid legend Raul rejected Man Utd last summer

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson offered Schalke star Raul the chance to play out his days at Old Trafford last summer, it has been revealed.

The player's agent Gines Carvajal told the Daily Mail that United's attempts to follow the signings of Henrik Larsson and Michael Owen with the capture of Real Madrid's all-time record goalscorer never went beyond the level of a few "conversations".

There was never any "serious or definite" offer.

Knowing he would have spent as much time on the sidelines at United as at Madrid, Raul would probably have turned down any offer. And the moment had perhaps passed for Ferguson to bid for the player he described as the best in the world in 2003.
