Agent deemed Sunderland or Bournemouth move for Napoli midfielder De Guzman as ‘inappropriate’

Jonathan De Guzman was close to returning to the Premier League during the summer transfer window.

The Dutch midfielder, who enjoyed two years on loan with Swansea City recently, was believed to be in advanced talks with Sunderland while also considering a move to Bournemouth late in the recent transfer market.

However, his agent Fabio Parisi revealed on Italian radio that none of the transfers available were right for De Guzman who opted to remain with Napoli rather than move back to England on another loan.

"During the transfer window, there emerged several opportunities in the market for De Guzman," said Parisi.

"The player evaluated the options, but did not consider them appropriate to accept and so remained in Naples."
