The agent of Manchester United fullback Alexander Buttner has revealed Ajax made an attempt for the Dutchman in the summer.

Buttner moved to United from Vitesse Arnhem before the start of the season.

"Ajax approached last summer to talk about a transfer with us," said Aleksander Bursac to Ajax Showtime. "That transfer was really close, the clubs were already talking. Then came Manchester United and that was the club he preferred."
