AC Milan wing-back Ignazio Abate was close to joining Zenit St Petersburg last week.

The full-back's representative has revealed that the deal could have gone through were it not for the Press.

"I think the fact that the move was leaked probably stopped it," Andrea D'Amico told Calciomercato.

"In football, news should only be spread only when a deal is actually completed."
