The agent of Joey Barton has backed the Newcastle United midfielder for an England recall.

"It is up to the manager to pick a team," Willie McKay told Setanta Sports News. "I think the manager has full control and if Joey keeps producing on the pitch, all I will say is I wish his granny was from Scotland.

"I don't see why he can't play for England again. If he is doing his work on the pitch, then there is no reason why he shouldn't be picked."
