Agent backs Buffon for success at Man City

The agent of Gigi Buffon says the Juventus goalkeeper would thrive at Manchester City.

Agent Silvano Martina says there has been no contact yet from Mark Hughes' well-funded side, but is adamant a deal could go ahead after Juventus finish their Champions League campaign.

"We haven't been contacted directly by Manchester City but I know there has been a lot of interest in Buffon," said Martina.

"But I think City will have to wait until the summer to sign all of the players they want to as they are all in the Champions League and will not want to leave mid-season.

"Also, I don't believe Manchester City are stupid enough to pay the £60m price-tag that has been talked about. I think a fee of around £45m would be more appropriate.'"

While some Italians in the Barclays Premier League, such as Massimo Maccarone at Middlesbrough, Martina believes his player would thrive in England in the style of former Chelsea greats Gianfranco Zola and Gianluca Vialli.

"When Italians have failed in England it is normally because they have come over when they were too young and inexperienced, motivated by money," said Martina.

"But when you have an experienced player with a settled family and personal life, such as Zola and Vialli, then they have been successful.

"Gianluigi is happily married and I'm sure he would be the same."
