The agent of Newcastle United defender Davide Santon admits he almost joined Fiorentina last summer.

Santon quit Inter Milan for Newcastle in August.

"There was a possibility that Santon could have moved to Fiorentina, but the club couldn't sign a player who Inter wanted to make a big profit on," Renzo Contratto told Radio Toscana.

"I hope that the Viola could renew their interest in Santon in the future, giving him the opportunity to play in Italy again, even if he is very happy in England right now."
