Agent Gabriele Giuffrida says Lazio made a major bid for Villarreal striker Nilmar.

Nilmar is staying with Villarreal until the end of the season.

"The time to do the transfer was very limited. Although the two are completely different players, Nilmar was wanted [by Lazio] after the non-arrival of Honda," explained the agent to Il Corriere dello Sport.

"Lazio began to deal with the player and Villarreal last Monday evening, less than a day before the window closed. Despite the restricted time, the two parties were very close to reaching an agreement. [Lazio president] Claudio Lotito made an offer of more than €10 million. Unfortunately for Lazio and their supporters, nothing came of it."
