Barcelona are watching Borussia Dortmund defender Marcel Schmelzer.

Barca coach Pep Guardiola is keen for a new, left-sided fullback with both Maxwell and Eric Abidal now in the veteran stage of their careers.

Schmelzer's agent, Mario Pichierri, revealed: "He is followed by several European teams, especially in Italy, but now Barcelona is the best placed."
