After Van Dijk, Liverpool now targets Bosman prospect Goretzka

Liverpool aren't hanging around after landing Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk.

Having splashed out £75m on the Dutchman, Liverpool are now chasing Bosman prospect Leon Goretzka.

BILD says Liverpool want to secure the midfielder to a pre-contract next month, with the Germany international's current deal to expire in June.

Schalke have offered Goretzka a club record €12m-a-year to re-sign - but Liverpool's offer will be superior. Also weighing in the Reds' favour is the presence of manager Jurgen Klopp and ex-Schalke teammate Joel Matip.

Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Manchester United and Juventus are also in contact with Goretzka's camp. But for the moment, Liverpool are now regarded as favourites for the midfielder.
